about Woollahra

Woollahra, located between Bondi Beach and Bellevue Hill, is a quiet, tree-lined residential suburb famous for its relaxed atmosphere as well as the village-styled shopping centre with the same name. Named in 1856 when Daniel Cooper build the Woollahra House, the suburb grew over the course of the next century to be a popular destination for families seeking a bit of quiet outside the CBD of Sydney.

Woollahra is also home to the consulates of several governments, including Germany, Russia, Turkey, Poland and Serbia. The quiet nature of the suburb makes it ideal for a diverse range of residents and such offices.

Amenities of the Woollahra Neighbourhood

The suburb is considered quite affluent due to its close proximity to the Sydney CBD and Bondi Junction shopping centre. With large, Victorian style homes the area is home to a large number of heritage listed structures. In particular, the areas of Queen Street and Moncur Street are well known for their picturesque homes and classic charm. The area has been preserved with no high-rise development due to the large number of such structures.

The Woollahra Public School has been open since 1877 and is also on the Register of the National Estate. Nearby transportation includes railway stations at Edgecliff and Bondi Junction, both of which are on the Illawarra line. Buses also provide service to and from the Sydney CBD, Surry Hills, Newtown and Sydenham.
