about Bronte

Located just 2.5km from Bondi Beach, Bronte offers spectacular views from cliff-top walking paths as well as its location on Nelson Bay. With the surrounding Bronte Park and the nearby walking paths to Coogee, Tamarama, and Bondi Beach, there is a lot to enjoy in the great outdoors. The view alone extends from Ben Buckler to Malabar. In 2008, the suburb was even named the best Sydney Suburb by the Sydney Morning Herald – chosen from 641 possible locations around the city.

The area was most notably settled in 1845 when Robert Lowe built the Bronte House. The house is still actively used today by private tenants who lease it from Waverley Council, and is listed on the Register of the National Estate. The area is also well known for the trams that were built here at the start of the 20th century.

Amenities of the Bronte Neighbourhood

With more than 6,000 residents, the beautiful beachfront suburb of Bronte offers a number of amenities for locals and tourists alike. The properties here vary with smaller apartments available alongside large standalone homes and estates that often have beach views. The beach itself is abutted by a grassed park and there are several cafes, shops and restaurants within walking distance for those who want to explore the area.

The area is also well known for its surfing culture, having produced several famous surfers over the years and home to a long standing surf club. An annual long distance swimming event is also held in December between here and Bondi Beach.
